Radio Brandy to Open Stream

Studio Used To Stream

Studio Used To Stream

Radio Brandy, will be providing some open streams of its radio networks. Up til now the streams have been private to interconnect our transmitters around the west. We will be using Shoutcast for most of our streams, and a few will be using ACC+ to save on expensive bandwidth.  Unlike over the air broadcasting; the more listeners a straming station has, the more it cost to operate. Every listener cost; as an example: a 128kb stream cost around $1.10 per a listener every month before all the taxes and fees are figured in. To have even a thousand listeners, can be very expensive for the streaming broadcaster. Radio Brandy prefers each stream to end up at a transmitter; even if it’s only a part 15 FM transmitter in an apartment complex. It also saves allot of energy; the average computer uses a couple hundred watts; where as a radio might only use a few watts.

Via Satellite

June 23, 2009

Radio Brandy’s new rural radio stations receive programming via KU band Satellite. The rural stations are solar and wind powered, serving remote areas lacking local radio service or access to broadband.

The receiver draws only 24 watts of power; making it ideal for solar & wind powered radio stations. All that is needed for broadcast following the satellite receiver is a small mixer and a processor which connects to the transmitter.

We use the Yamaha MG 10/2 mixer throughout our operation, in both production and on the air. The stations perform a real service to areas isolated from the outside world, and can provide local programming in case of an emergencies.
